It is widely present in various plants, animal tissues, serum, and plasma. 5'NT is a special phosphodiester hydrolase, which only acts on nucleoside -5'- phosphate such as AMP ( adenosine -5'- phosphate or adenylate ) to generate inorganic phosphate and nucleosides. By determining the phosphorus content of the generated inorganic phosphorus, the activity of 5'-NT can be calculated.
