Plan for Exploitation and Dissemination Activities
The
involvement of nine partner laboratories, one third party and two subcontractors,
representing diagnostic institutes, universities, one SME and an international
organisation of the United Nations (IAEA, FAO) provides guarantee that
the gained knowledge will be directly applied in routine diagnostic laboratories,
in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, in industries, as well as in
national and in international networks of biotechnology and health sciences.
Dissemination and exploitation of the results is considered by this
new consortium to be a vital component of the proposed work programme.
This is reflected in a work package dedicated to “Transfer of
knowledge to EU member and candidate countries, as well as to third countries”.
Information dissemination will be carried out on a number of levels.
Internal dissemination. Similarly to our FP5 project QLK2CT-2000-00486,
an internal education system will be established in the project, in order
to provide possibilities to members to visit other partner laboratories.
The purpose is to learn and practice the new methods and adapt them in
their home institutes. Partners 3 and 4 will be in charge to continue this
well-functioning practice, as dedicated in a separate subworkpackage in
WP9.
External dissemination. Results generated will be specifically targeted
at veterinary institutions, both central laboratories and simply equipped
units. Practitioners will be informed on the new methods by publications
in the veterinary and farming press and meetings with consortia of veterinarians
working in the “front line” in the field or at abattoirs. Good
lines of communication between consortium members and veterinary institutes,
universities, veterinary health authorities and industrial companies inside
and outside the EU in relation to improved diagnosis of viral diseases
have already been established by members of this consortium.
The
participation of a multinational organisation as third party in the
consortium (FAO/IAEA Joint Division) will enhance these communications and experts
with established global network of information will participate in the
worldwide dissemination of information. The consortium has formally agreed
with the FAO/IAEA Joint Division that information will be disseminated
to third country veterinary institutions through their global information
dissemination network.
Where applicable, scientific information will be disseminated in
peer-reviewed international journals and international scientific meetings.
The scientific committee will unanimously approve all submissions for publications
in journals and meetings.
Dissemination of results at a policy level will also be relevant
to this project and will occur through progress reports to the EU and,
where necessary meetings between the co-ordinator and other members of
the consortium with EU and national policy groups. Commercial exploitation
of the results generated will be within the consortium and led by our commercial
partner. Terms and agreements relating to foreground and background information
in the project and exploitation of results will be detailed in a consortium
agreement.
Any and all IPR opportunities arising within the project will be
identified by the group and filed by our commercial partner who will have
first refusal on exploitation of eventual commercial products. Our commercial
partner will carry all costs of patent applications and/or defence, which
are relevant to their commercial interests. This arrangement will reflect
EU policy and guidelines related to IPR and exploitation of results within
a EU-funded project. It is anticipated that production and marketing of
commercial products derived from this project will be beyond the time scale
of the project, but will be substantially accelerated by results generated
within the project. All members of the consortium will have royalty free
access to reagents and kits generated from the present research.
